2020 has been a tough year for everyone and the new lockdown is a further blow. However, we are hoping to end the year on something of a high, with this Christmas in Neston project.  Please join us to spread festive cheer in our wonderful community.

Gooden Flooring and The Zone are supporting the Neston Community Christmas Dinner campaign this year.

For the last four years, Emily and David Truelove have been providing Christmas Dinners, entertainment and gifts on Christmas Day for elderly residents from our Community. This has always been free of charge with support from local businesses and amazing volunteers.

Emily told Christmas In Neston “Due to the COVID restrictions and guidelines this year, we realised things had to be different, but it was important for us to still keep connected with those people who we have supported in the past. So we are delivering 25 Christmas Hampers the week before Christmas into our community. The hampers will be filled with lots of Christmas snacks and goodies and will also include a lovely gift. Of course, we will be making those all important phone calls to reach out to residents on their own on Christmas Day.

Our appeal has really taken off and we couldn’t have done it without the help of Gary and Chloe from The Zone, who set up a ‘go-fund me’ page and really spread the word. We were really quite overwhelmed when Gooden Floorings offered us their incredibly generous donation after hearing of our appeal. With their donation, individual donations from within our community and Zone Fitness members significant donations, we have reached our target for this year and have a good start to be able to continue for next year too, which is just wonderful. Another special thanks must go to Louise and Andrew Irvine, who have helped us every year and play a huge part in organising our dinners and the hampers this year.”

The appeal is still wanting to hear from anyone who can make some phone calls on Christmas Day. For more information on the campaign, check out this video for more information: The Zone Video or Facebook Neston-Community-Xmas-Dinner

TRACEY GOODEN, OWNER OF GOODEN FLOORING contacted the Christmas In Neston Team to ask how they would go about offering their support to the campaign, having seen the video appeal on our website.

Tracey told us “As a business, we are fortunate to be able to support local charities each year. We usually do this by attending local events, donating goods and services. As COVID has cancelled all these events this year, we still felt it was important to be able to offer support directly into our Community. The Neston Community Christmas Dinner campaign is such a lovely thing to do as there continues to be so many isolated people at home. Delivering hampers directly to them and making a phone call to those at home will make a huge difference and we are pleased to support it.’

Ness Botanic Gardens is Supporting the West Cheshire FoodBank this Christmas, benefiting our community directly

Ness Botanic Gardens has donation boxes for visitors who can donate canned and non-perishable goods. All donations will be passed to the West Cheshire Foodbank, of which our local community benefits directly.

A food bank is run directly from Neston Community Centre, Burton Road, Neston every Thursday 10-12pm.

Ness Botanic Gardens is open visitors. Access to the garden will once again be via the visitor centre, with external exits provided on either side of the car park. The Botanic Kitchen Café will be open, offering table service daily. The gift shop will also be available.

They are having a very special visitor on the 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th of December from 11am until 2pm. You can catch Father Christmas there as he makes some last minute preparations before heading to the North Pole. Children can post their wishes in the Christmas post-box. All are welcome, with no need to book but normal garden admission will apply. https://www.facebook.com/NessBotanicGardens

If you need support from the Foodbank Call the Neston Community Centre during open hours on 0151 336 7805. You will be asked for information about the problems you are dealing with so that we can help through our other services - Job Centre, Social Prescribing, Befriending, For Futures etc.

You can then simply visit between 10 and 12 on Thursday morning to collect your food. If you are unable to buy food, then food aid is available from the Foodbank. You will first need to get a referral from the Community Centre or another agency who can do this (ForHousing, Cheshire West Help Scheme etc)

West Cheshire FoodBank don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK, although they, like us, are a local Charity in their own right.

Home Instead, Wirral is supporting local seniors through its 'Be A Santa To A Senior’ campaign and are delighted that Costa Coffee in Neston is supporting them, to help bring some joy to senior people who may not otherwise receive a gift at Christmas time.

Through donating a gift to a senior person, the ‘Be a Santa to Senior’ campaign helps combat isolation and loneliness, which is needed more than ever this Christmas, offering support to individuals, organisations and charities who all share a common goal with Home Instead Senior Care Wirral.

If you would like to donate a gift then please pop into Costa in Neston High Street and ask a member of staff for a Santa to a Senior gift tag Each tag contains the name of a senior person and a suggested gift for you to buy Simply return your present to the Costa store (unwrapped) before December 14th Home Instead’s team will do the rest and make sure your gift is delivered in time for Christmas.

This year it was far from certain that Home Instead would be able to run their annual #BeASanta gift giving campaign because of the extreme challenges our communities are facing due to the Coronavirus pandemic. However, they have worked along with their colleagues and partners in the local community to ensure they have a COVID-safe process, allowing this valuable campaign to happen for Christmas.

Home Instead thanks all the team at Costa Coffee Neston, and hopes the local community can support their important campaign too this Christmas.

THE MALT SHOVEL

The Malt Shovel has a Christmas Present Appeal

Pub Manager, Lyndsey Pugh, has told the Christmas In Neston Team “after running the appeal at half-term for the food donations and parcels, we were overwhelmed with the generosity of people who donated. But it made us realise that we have so many people in our community that need some extra support, particularly for their Children. It’s been a really difficult year for many people, financially and emotionally and we understand that money is tight at the moment but we are asking help from anyone who can add just one extra item to their festive shopping list to do so. Each gift will then be distributed to those families less fortunate than ourselves, ready to be put under the Christmas tree in time for the big day. We hope that the Community can support us anyway they can and spread some cheer.”

Donations should be suitable for children up to the age of 16, such as:

New toys and games

Chocolates and sweets

New nightwear

Toiletries gift sets

Books

Educational toys and puzzles

Stationary - colouring books, crayones, pencils, stickers

Gloves, hats, scarves

Gift Vouchers

There are donation boxes at the following locations, where you can drop off in a COVID secure way: The Malt Shovel, Liverpool Road Neston Youth & Community Centre, Burton Road. Monday - Friday 10am-4pm NEED TO USE THE TOY APPEAL PIC ON THE MALT SHOVEL FACEBOOK PAGE

REAL FOOD KITCHEN

The Real Food Kitchen in Neston is raising money for our very own Neston Angels run by Neston Community Centre

They are selling raffle tickets for a chance to win this fabulous hamper worth £45. Tickets are just £1 and can be bought from inside the cafe, which is open to sit in, al-fresco or take-out.

Owner Kate said ‘Throughout lockdown, our demand for the ‘fresh to frozen’ take-away meals was unprecedented and made us realise just how many local people are at home and rely on others to help support them. We wanted to raise money for a local charity and The Neston Angels that is run by the Community Centre, makes a real difference to the lives of older people in our area. It just seemed fitting to choose this charity for us at this time’’

The café sells fresh food daily including salads, soups, ciabattas, hot and cold drinks and of course their ‘fresh to frozen’ range which has been invaluable to many residents during the lockdowns. They have a fabulous Deli selection too, selling a wide range of delicious foods, drinks and books, that you can purchase to customise your own hamper for a beautiful gift.

The draw will take place on 15 December. Check out their facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/rfd365
